Moab

Event production in Moab.

Moab has the scenery covered and very little production inventory of its own, so we truck ours down: sound, lighting, staging, power, and crew. Travel is written out as its own line on the quote instead of being folded into the total.

Local production

What we do in Moab

  • Full production trucked to Moab, Arches gateway venues, and Castle Valley
  • Battery powered systems for remote and permit sensitive sites
  • Corporate retreat and brand activation AV at Moab resorts and basecamps
  • One flat quote covering gear, crew, travel, and lodging

Venues we know out here: Red Cliffs Lodge, Sorrel River Ranch, Under Canvas Moab, and private desert sites.

Why we make the drive

Moab is worth the trip

We could stay on the Wasatch Front and stay plenty busy, but the events down here are usually a big deal to the people throwing them. Nobody brings a group four hours into the desert for a routine meeting.

There is also something we like about a job where everything on site came off a truck. The scenery does not do any of the work for you, so either the kit was right and the power was planned, or you are standing in a beautiful place with a system that cannot cover the crowd.

That is why we ask more questions than a local company in a city would. Down here the questions are what keep the day from going sideways.

Four hours out

What the desert does to equipment

Moab is about four hours from our warehouse, and that changes how we plan a job. There is no running back for a spare, so anything we forget is something we do without in front of your guests.

Because of that, Moab trucks go out with backups of the things that fail. Extra mics and cables, a spare amp, more batteries than the math calls for, and more shade than we think we will need. It takes up some room in the truck and it has saved a few programs.

Heat

Amplifiers sitting in direct sun will protect themselves by turning down, and that tends to happen right as the room fills up. Anything in the sun gets shaded and given space to breathe, and we schedule builds for early morning or late afternoon rather than the middle of the day in July.

Red dust

The dust down here is abrasive, not just messy. It gets into faders and connectors and grinds away at them. Cases stay closed until we are ready to build and everything gets cleaned before it goes back on the shelf.

Afternoon wind

In the spring the wind funnels through the canyons most afternoons. It will knock over anything that is not weighted, turn a banner into a sail, and make an outdoor lapel mic close to unusable. We ballast everything, pick mics that hold up in it, and if your timeline has any flexibility we will tell you which part of the day is going to be working against you.

Moab quotes come as one number, with the gear at our published rates and travel and lodging shown as their own lines.

Questions we get often

Do you really bring production to Moab?

Yes, regularly. There are great venues down here and almost no local AV inventory, so we bring the whole setup from the Wasatch Front.

What about power at remote desert sites?

Battery powered PA and lighting will cover most programs, dinners, and speeches. For a full dance floor we spec a quiet generator and ramp anything that crosses a walkway.

How do travel costs work?

Travel and lodging are their own lines on the quote so you can see what the drive costs. The gear is priced at the same published rates as a job ten minutes from our shop.

What is the best season for an outdoor event down here?

Spring and fall. Midsummer afternoons are hard on guests and on equipment, and if your date has to be in July we will plan around the heat rather than pretend it is not a factor.

Can you help with permits or sound rules near the parks?

We are not able to handle permitting for you, but we have worked plenty of sites with sound restrictions and we will spec a system that stays inside them. Send us the restrictions along with your date.
