Zion & Springdale

Event production in Zion & Springdale.

Springdale, Virgin, and the area east of the park have some of the most photographed event settings in Utah. Most of the appeal is the quiet and the scale of the canyon walls, so the production needs to stay out of the way and out of the pictures.

Local production

What we do in Zion & Springdale

  • Program, dinner, and ceremony sound tuned for canyon acoustics
  • Battery and low noise systems for permit sensitive locations
  • Corporate retreat AV at Zion area resorts and glamping properties
  • Flat quoted travel from the Wasatch Front, written out on the quote

Venues we know out here: Under Canvas Zion, Zion Red Rock, Springdale event lawns, and Kolob area ranches.

Canyon country

How sound behaves between canyon walls

Large rock faces reflect sound. If you point a loud system at a canyon wall, guests hear every sentence twice with a slight delay, which is harder to follow than not hearing it well in the first place.

The answer is usually smaller and closer rather than louder. Several modest speakers spread through the seating area work better here than one big stack, and the whole setup ends up quieter and less noticeable in a place people came to for the quiet.

Noise limits and neighbors

Springdale is a small town on one narrow main street and sound carries a long way in a canyon, so a lot of properties have limits written into their contracts. We would rather design inside those from the start than have someone from the venue walking toward front of house at 9pm.

Dark skies

The night sky is part of why people come down here, and uplighting that spills straight up washes it out. We keep light on what it is supposed to be on, keep it low and warm, and leave the sky alone.

Heat and scheduling

Summer down here gets serious. We shade the amplifiers, build early or late in the day, and will tell you which part of the afternoon is going to be uncomfortable for guests before you lock in a timeline.

Zion area dates are quoted flat, with travel and lodging listed as their own lines on the quote.

Why Zion

Doing less is the point down here

Most production work rewards adding more, and Zion is the opposite. The best outcome here is that guests do not notice anything we brought.

In practice that means small speakers placed where they are needed instead of stacks at the front, fixtures tucked where a camera will not find them, and nothing humming in the background during dinner. When it goes well, people remember the canyon at sunset and a program they could hear clearly, and they could not tell you where a single speaker was.

It takes more planning than a ballroom does, not less, and we are happy to do that work.

Questions we get often

Do you serve Springdale and the Zion area?

Yes. These dates get quoted flat with travel and lodging written out, and we spec battery systems wherever permits or neighbors call for quiet.

Can you do a silent disco near Zion?

It works really well down here. We keep 750 LED headphones in house, so you can have a full dance floor without any of it carrying up the canyon.

Will the canyon echo ruin our speeches?

Not if the system is designed around it. Using several smaller speakers close to the audience keeps sound off the rock, and that one choice makes most of the difference in whether an outdoor program is easy to follow.

What about summer heat?

It is a real factor. We shade amplifiers, schedule builds early or late, and will tell you honestly which part of the day is going to be hard on your guests.

Do you work under NDA for private events?

Yes, fairly often. A good share of our destination work is private by contract and we are used to it.
